What is Botox?
Botox is a cosmetic procedure using small doses of Clostridium Botulinum toxin. The botulin toxin temporarily paralyzes the facial muscles at the injection site. The result is a fresher and smoother appearance, free of wrinkles and fine lines. The botulinum is safe and FDA-approved. Not to mention our medical providers will only use small doses in the targeted areas. Botox simply relaxes your facial muscles, preventing them from moving. It does this by blocking communication between the muscles and the nerves so that the muscles will no longer contract. This effectively prevents the formation of wrinkles and lines while simultaneously smoothing the skin. In addition, Botox can also be used as a treatment for migraines, grinding teeth (masseter muscles to relieve pain) Another concern is that you will look unnatural with Botox. This is a myth. In fact, your skin will look refreshed, youthful, and MORE natural.
Before the Procedure
At Modesto Aesthetics, we always have a consultation with new patients. During this consultation, you can discuss your problem areas and the results you hope to achieve. In addition, we will help you set up a treatment plan and answer any additional questions you might have about the procedure.
During the Procedure
The procedure is quick and easy. You can return to your normal activities right away. Our medical professional will inject the predetermined site with Botox using extremely small needles. You will feel a slight pin prick at the injection site. In most cases it will only take 10 to 15 minutes. You will likely notice a small red spot at the injection site, yet it will fade within an hour.
After the Procedure
You can return to most activities immediately following the procedure. We recommend you avoid strenuous exercise and keep the site clean of makeup for 6-8 hours after the procedure. You should also avoid abrasive cleansers until the following day. Adverse side effects are infrequent; however, contact our office if you notice an allergic reaction or persistent headache. Most people do not experience any side effects. You will notice the results gradually over a 3–14-day period. Once Botox takes full effect you will see smoothing of wrinkles and fine lines.
